Pendant Lighting FAQs

Although pendants and chandeliers are both suspended from the ceiling and are extremely similar in this way, there is a difference between them. On a chandelier, there are several bulbs attached to an individual hanging fixture, whereas pendants only have one bulb attached to each individual one. For example, our pendant chandelier involves a lot of individual fixtures with only one bulb on each of these. Though it gives the same effect and illusion as a regular chandelier, it is not. Just like everything else, types of pendant lights do go in and out of style. Despite this, chic pendant lights are something that is unlikely to ever go away. Pendant lighting with an industrial look and matte finish has been popular recently. Soft gold is also a favourite option at the moment as it creates an elegant and modern look.
It is possible to get pendants with a convenient remote control. This allows you to remotely adjust the brightness of your light and even switch it on and off.
A pendant lamp is typically found in a kitchen or dining room. The design of a pendant allows light to be brought directly to a dining table or bar, no matter what the ceiling height is. They are not exclusive to the kitchen or dining table though. You could place your new light above a chair in a cosy reading corner for example.
A question that is not asked often enough, is how high above a table a hanging light should sit. This is important, as a light that is too low may get in the way of people trying to sit around a table, while a light that is too high could cause a loss of clarity and visibility. The typical rule for correct hanging is that the bottom of a light fixture should hang at least 30 inches (around 75cm) above a table, but no more than 36 inches (around 90cm). This allows for the perfect level of light without interfering with practicality. This is why most of our lights are height adjustable allowing you to choose how you want to hang your fixture.
